How to stay green (and warm) this winter
Tips to keep your winter eco friendly:

Fight Frost Naturally
To prevent ice from covering home and car windows, rub the inside of the glass with a saltwater-soaked sponge; dry with a clean cloth. You won't see it, but a residue from the salt will remain to ward-off frost. For extra oomph, spray a solution of three parts white vinegar and one part water on the outside of the glass, then wipe dry.

Minimize Idling
Don't let your car idle for more than 30 seconds. Beyond wasting fuel, excessive idling strains cylinders, spark plugs, exhaust systems, and engines, which work best in motion -- not in neutral. The best way to warm up the car? Drive

Let the Sunshine In
Even in winter, the sun's rays provide a fair amount of warmth. Take advantage of this free heating by opening blinds and curtains on the windows that receive the most light

Dress warmly
Wear extra layers, thick jerseys (jumpers), extra socks or whatever else it takes to keep you warm. An extra layer close to the skin will raise the body temperature significantly meaning you don’t need a heater which will save on precious electricity.

Night time warmth
Fill a hot water bottle or snuggle a happy hugger (microwable bean bag) instead of switching on the electric blanket. The blankets normally get left on for longer than is necessary, using expensive electricity. Or, find someone to cuddle you close and share the body heat!

Seal up!
Ensure door and windows are sealed properly to prevent heat from escaping. Close doors and windows properly. There’s no point in heating a room if the warmth will escape. Hang thick winter curtains that keep in the heat.

Save water
Hot showers are longer in winter but be aware of how much water you use and try to keep your shower length to the minimum. It’s better to take a shower than a long hot bath though!

To dry or not to dry
Use a clothes line as often as possible or create an undercover clothes line and prevent using your drier as much as possible. It uses electricity and is not ideal for your clothing either

Get some exercise!
Sign up at the gym, vacuum your house or go for a run! Get the blood flowing and this will help keep you warm. Once you’ve raised your core temperature, wrap up tight to stay warm!
